A chicken has been stolen on Aachen’s Hühnermarkt (chicken market) square! Or was it a cockerel?
The “Hühnerdieb” (chicken thief) is a fountain statue, and show the moment a boy is caught with his swag. Instead of catching a chicken, he has stolen a cockerel by mistake, and when it starts to crow, the crime is revealed. In 1913, the mayor of Aachen, Philipp Veltmann, purchased the figure created by sculptor Herrmann Joachim Pagels at the Great Berlin Art Fair.
