The building of the Landgericht Aachen district court stands on a historic site.
The portal grilles, stairways and marble-clad walls and white bronze windows in the entrance hall of the building are still a testament today to its long history. In October 1818, King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia, Emperor Franz I of Austria and Tsar Alexander I of Russia met here for the Congress of Aix-la-Chapelle to celebrate friendship among the peoples and the fifth anniversary of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig. The monument to the congress, which once celebrated this event, was later removed to make way for the court building, which was officially opened in its current form in 2008.
