More diverse than any other district in Aachen

“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious ”* is what’s buzzing around in my head as I walk through Aachen’s beautiful Frankenberg quarter. I walk with my eyes open, looking for the special, the one, the exciting, the unique and I simply “just” come to one conclusion: the atmosphere of the Frankenberg Quarter, the sum of thousands of fascinating and yet simple particles, is what makes up the quarter. Take a little time, grab your bike, a coffee to go, a blanket (to sit on or snuggle up on a bench), take a walk , linger , let yourself be inspired . I'll take you on my little journey and show you my personal favorite impressions .

A short historical overview; must be too.

The district is located between the town center of Burtscheid and Forst. According to the first development plan from 1873, construction took place around the core, Frankenberg Castle . Nowadays the Steffensviertel and the Viktoriaviertel are also – in my opinion – one of the most beautiful and lively districts in Aachen. In terms of city history, the main points of the Frankenberger, in addition to the castle, are the Catholic Sacred Heart Church (“Frankberg Cathedral”) and the Neumarkt ; the main axes are Oppenhoffallee and Viktoriallee.

Attention to detail en pointe

Let's just go for a walk. The eye for detail , the perfect “crop” – if I think in photo language or social media worlds – can wander endlessly here, can search, find. Facades, balconies, windows and especially stairs have always fascinated me. What I can discover here within just a few blocks is great. Formative architectural styles from the Wilhelminian era, neoclassicism, neo-Renaissance, neo-Baroque, neo-Gothic, mixed forms and fantasy architecture to Art Nouveau and a return to strict forms lead to a multifaceted mix of the most beautiful facades . You can discover ornaments in stucco, curlicues, turrets, straight structures, grilles, a wide variety of window shapes, extensions, loggias. I recommend looking up , up the facade, along the windows and also to the side, next to the houses; Maybe even go into a house to look at a special staircase.

Most of the buildings are very well preserved and the houses are very well maintained. Here you can feel the special quality of life , which starts with the style of living and continues into the lifestyle.

Lifestyle: Liveable, cool, self-sufficient

As an outsider who doesn't live in Frankenberger, you feel a special vibe , which must be even more special - I hear again and again - if the district is also the "base". Worth living, cool , stylish , self- , with its own culture , that's how it has to be. A small city in a big one. Everyday life can be fully organized here: groceries, drugstore items, bookstores, flowers, gifts, bakers, post office and so on are spread out on several streets.

Gastro scene: From simple to colorful to grandiose

If you want to be among people and want to be pampered with culinary delights, just a few steps are often enough, because there is a variety of restaurants, cafés, bars of various nationalities, price ranges and Standard . My favorites are the Oecher Eistreff , the Aachener Eismanufaktur unusual homemade ice cream flavors such as streusel roll ice cream, the Dumont with the only beer garden in the district, the Café Soleil with cake and coffee specialties as well as delicious hearty snacks such as soups and sandwiches. By the way, you can also work very concentrated there. I really enjoy enjoying the pure, authentic Italian atmosphere in the Trattoria Bar Centrale 46 with a wine and homemade pasta.

“Just linger, you moment.”

The Frankenberg Quarter is special, interesting, colorful and varied any time of the year , whatever the weather weekly market is a kind of “pars pro toto” for life in Frankenberg. Colorful, intense, multifaceted, individual . Like the market stalls, the special coffee from Baristinho - definitely enjoy -, the flowers, the people and the colorful hustle and bustle .

“Only on the go can you experience the feeling of fairytale enchantment ”** ... Let the district enchant you.

I love my Aachen!
