Spring awakening in the Couven – a museum shows what’s inside!

As the first heralds of spring in the new year, snowdrops signal the end of winter.
Spring is on the way with the chirping of birds, nature is coming back to life with floral colors in lush green, and sitting in the warming sun is finally possible again. March 20th marks the beginning of spring. We are taking this new beginning of the annual cycle as an opportunity and starting our series “Seasons in the Couven Museum”. Over the course of the year, we will present the history of a few selected objects from the permanent collection relating to the four seasons. We pay particular attention to the cultural and historical significance of some pieces and their impact on today. Starting with spring - and thus around the topic of flowers - aspects such as preferences for exotic plants in the 18th and 19th centuries are taken up and the long-term consequences of their importation on today's native flora and fauna. Other stations focus on the flower as a status symbol and as a means of communication.
