Pilgrim guided tour

Follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims!
Aachen has been a renowned pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages. Every seven years, the "Shrine Processions" visit precious cloth relics attributed to the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. On this Guided Tour follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims who, as early tourists, left behind some of these relics. Pilgrimages were considered one of the most common forms of travel at that time. During this tour, our guides will tell you many stories about the historical events and interesting stories surrounding Aachen Cathedral—from sad to cheerful, and from 1349 to the present day. Discover where the pilgrims once stayed and learn about the medieval Aachhörner (mountain peaks). The stories about the roof terraces surrounding the cathedral are particularly fascinating. Wealthy pilgrims enjoyed the best view of the relics from these lofty heights.
