Plan a visit

The City Church of St. Nikolaus welcomes its visitors like a rest zone against the hustle and bustle of the city center

Built in 1005 as a small chapel, the church grew to an impressive monastery with the Order of the Franciscans in 1234. Built in honor of St. Nicholas and consecrated in 1327, a choir room, the three -story high altar and the side altars were created around the small chapel. A city fire in 1656, an earthquake in 1692 and bomb attacks in 1944 repeatedly destroyed parts of the church. The mission of the Franciscan order to accept merchants and travelers and to operate people close to the people is still continued by the "Church for the City" association. The City Church is now in the joint sponsorship of the Evangelical and Catholic Church.
