St. Michael

With the St. Johann-Baptist Abbey Church, St. Michael forms the baroque city crown of Burtscheid.
Even if today's St. Michael church was built with the neighboring Abbey Church around 1751, it is considered the oldest parish church of Burtscheid. It was documented as a Leutkirche in the 13th century. After the church building had largely expired over the centuries, its new building was decided in the 17th century. However, the then client, abbess Anna Carola Margarete von Ressess, has taken over financially that the master builder Johann Josef Couven was only able to continue the construction of the baroque tower in 1891.
