The special experience of sound and space in a World Heritage Site

The organ is often called the "queen of instruments" because of its powerful sound and size. Almost every organ is unique, designed specifically for its client and specially tuned to the space. This also applies to the organ in Aachen Cathedral: It was built in 1939 by the renowned Klais organ workshop in Bonn and expanded in 1993 to include the Hochmünster organ, but its basic components date back to an older instrument. The current organ system has 94 stops. Outside of services, its impressive soundscape and technology can usually only be experienced during cathedral music concerts. But once a year, during the "Organ Days at Aachen Cathedral," the organ itself takes center stage.
Not only dedicated organ and classical music fans enjoy attending the four concerts each late summer, but increasingly also students and people who desire the special experience of sound and space in a world cultural heritage site.
This year, cathedral organist Michael Hoppe is once again hosting visitors from Belgium, Switzerland, and Freiburg.
