After the flood. The treasure of Kornelimünster as a guest

The church treasure from Kornelimünster as a guest in the cathedral treasure chamber.
The Aachen cathedral treasure chamber has been holding parts of the church treasure from the neighboring town since the flood and is now the focus of a new presentation
Propsteikirche Kornelius, founded as a monastery church, experienced some exceptional states in its more than a thousand years of history. A dramatic event was added in July 2021. After heavy rains, the Inde had stepped over the banks, on the night of July 15, 2021 the water reached its high with over three meters. The church treasure in the crypt of the church threatened to run full. Shortly before the place was evacuated, the fire brigade and volunteers won the objects from the treasury and stored them on the gallery. Fortunately, the textile relics stored in the tower of the church did not have to be brought to safety.
After the water decline, employees of the Aachen cathedral treasure chamber picked up the church treasures for safe custody. While some works of art such as the Kornelius bust or the Korneliushorn are "at home" again today, around 40 other treasures- including gold and silversmith work, small relics, various altar crosses and medallions with reliefs from the apostles- are still stored in the cathedral treasure chamber.
Under the title: "After the flood. The treasure of Kornelimünster as a guest", the exhibition shows a large part of the saved works that would have been lost without the courageous use of the volunteers.
