Ernani

Dramma Lirico in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi
"Ernani" is not only a rarely played early work from Verdi's opera sheep, it also has a clear connection to the city of Aachen: The third act plays in the Cathedral of Aachen, in the crypt of Charl. In 1520 the Habsburg Charles V awaited his coronation and - a gang of conspirators. One of his opponents is Ernani - political as in love - because both love Elvira. However, she is promised to the old Silva, which is why Ernani wants to flee with her. Elvira can hardly escape her situation between intrigue and her sincere love for Ernani. Ernani is also caught in his oath of Silva. As his guest, he did not deliver to Charles V as his guest, but ties his life to one condition: if Silva sounds the horn, Ernani has to commit suicide. As with Victor Hugo, historical facts and fiction combine into a passionate drama in Verdi's »Ernani«. This takes the music theater collective Agora as an opportunity for a spectacular journey through different times, aesthetic shapes and places. Even the Aachen Cathedral becomes a backdrop for a gripping music theater evening.
