The Cathedral Treasury is considered one of the most important church treasuries north of the Alps. It displays sacral masterpieces of the late Classical, Carolingian, Ottonian, Staufian and Gothic periods, among them unique treasuries like the 'Cross of Lothair', the 'Bust of Charlemagne' and the 'Persephone sarcophagus' . About 130 exhibited objects document the significance of the Aachen Cathedral as the exhibition site of the medieval shrine chamber.
