Meeting sustainably

Green rethinking

Scarcity of resources and global climate change are global challenges that the MICE industry also has to face. Because conferences, meetings and incentive trips have an impact on the environment.

Aachen's largest event location, Eurogress Aachen, is one of the pioneers in sustainable corporate management and in hosting resource-saving congresses and meetings and already took part in the Ecoprofit project of the city region and the city of Aachen in 2011. Eurogress has been awarded the “Green Globe” certificate by EVVC, winner of the “Meeting Experts Green Award” for its sustainable human resources management and is committed to the event industry’s sustainability code. The planned extensive roof renovation of the Eurogress Aachen by 2025 will create the largest photovoltaic system in Aachen.

The city of Aachen has the goal of being climate neutral by 2030. The city was selected in April 2022, along with 99 other cities, for the EU mission “100 Climate-neutral and Smart Cities by 2030”. One goal is, among other things, that by 2030 no more greenhouse gases will be released in Aachen than can be offset by carbon sequestration. Major events such as the Aachen Christmas markt set a good example. Not only has it been voted among the top 10 “Best European Christmas Markets” for years, but it also focuses on the sustainability aspect with green electricity. In 2018, the city achieved third place in the category “Germany’s most sustainable cities”.
