Guided tour of the town hall
Today's Aachen City Hall stands on the foundation walls of the Carolingian palace hall.
A visit to Aachen City Hall is a must! This impressive building, constructed in the 14th century on the foundations of the Carolingian palace hall, is one of the city’s crown jewels—and not just because of its striking façade. The neo-Gothic exterior and Baroque interior reflect an eventful history, taking you on a journey through the centuries. Marvel at the architectural details in the Council Chamber, where council meetings are still held today, in the White Hall, which offers a very special atmosphere for civil weddings, and, of course, in the unique Coronation Hall. However, on this tour, our guides won’t just tell you the history of the building. Of course, we’ll also talk about some famous figures like Charlemagne and the Earl of Sandwich. Plus, you’ll learn interesting facts about medieval coronations and today’s Charlemagne Prize ceremonies.
