Frankenberg Castle: A medieval castle in the heart of the Frankenberg district
In the Frankenberg neighborhood stands Frankenberg Castle, whose walls date back to the 13th century. The complex was originally a free castle and later passed into the possession of the counts and dukes of Jülich, Kleve, and Berg. To this day, the building retains the typical features of a medieval lowland castle, and its location in the heart of a residential neighborhood makes it seem like a quiet anchor between the past and the present. As you stroll through the neighborhood, the castle appears almost unexpectedly, as if a piece of medieval city history had survived into the present day. The stones bear the marks of many centuries and convey a sense of permanence that shapes the atmosphere of the surroundings.
