Carolus Thermen
Carolus Thermen Aachen: Relaxation with roots in antiquity
When you visit the Carolus Thermen, you’ll discover a place that blends modern architecture with Aachen’s centuries-old bathing culture. The thermal baths were built between 1998 and 2001, continuing a tradition that dates back to ancient times.Following extensive renovation, restoration, and revitalization between 2020 and 2022, the Carolus Thermen now shine in new splendor and once again invite visitors to relax. Warm, sulfur-rich water has always flowed from numerous underground springs in the city, and it is said to have a soothing effect. The Romans already made use of Aachen’s springs, thereby establishing a bathing culture that lives on to this day.
In the various pools of the thermal baths, you can experience this natural power in a particularly peaceful and pleasant way. Different water temperatures, bubbling and current areas, as well as quiet retreats create an atmosphere where relaxation comes naturally. The clear, light-filled architecture leaves room for tranquility and creates an environment where you can drift away from the hustle and bustle. Large glass surfaces open up the view to the outside and connect the bathing hall with the surrounding park landscape. Here you can feel the connection to Aachen’s city history and, at the same time, experience a timeless form of relaxation—a place where tradition and modern well-being come together in harmony.
