Hotmannspief – A Fountain with Many Stories
At the intersection of busy paths stands the Hotmannspief, a fountain that has been part of the city for centuries. As early as the 14th century, there was a drinking trough here that carters used to water their horses. Perhaps the unusual name originated from these “Hotmann” carters. In the 19th century, the site was given a new look: the obelisk was built in 1825 based on plans by Adam Franz Friedrich Leydel, and the figures were added in 1830. If you linger here, you can sense the connection between everyday city history and little anecdotes that have become part of the fabric of time.
