Minster Square
Münsterplatz in Aachen: A square that lets the cathedral breathe
Münsterplatz opens up directly in front of Aachen Cathedral and offers a peaceful contrast to the narrow streets of the surrounding Old Town. Standing here, the square feels like a small stage on which the UNESCO World Heritage Site appears particularly impressive. The open space allows you to take in the architecture and observe the changing play of light. At the edges, facades evoke bygone eras, including the historic front of a building that once replaced the Elisabethspital and now houses the Schmetz am Dom City Library. Despite its central location, the square exudes a pleasant sense of calm and invites you to pause briefly before continuing your stroll through the Old Town.
