St. Cornelius
St. Cornelius: a monastic town with precious traces of centuries past
In Kornelimünster, St. Cornelius Church stands as a place of worship that has shaped the spiritual life of the town for centuries. Today, the brick structure is a spacious hall church whose vaults and westwork bear witness to a long history of construction. Particularly impressive is the octagonal chapel on the east side, which has attracted pilgrims since 1706 and becomes a pilgrimage chapel in its own right during the Kornelius Octave. Among the most significant treasures are three cloths traditionally associated with Christ, which continue to lend the site a special significance to this day. Many visitors find the atmosphere both serene and rich in history, as monastic tradition, pilgrimage, and architectural details merge here to create a multifaceted experience.
