St. Michael
St. Michael: a peaceful place where Jesuit architecture meets Byzantine tradition
St. Michael’s Church is one of the historic buildings in Aachen’s Old Town. Built in 1628 as a Jesuit church, it shaped the religious life of the neighborhood for centuries. Its robust, clean-lined architecture reflects the order’s tradition of teaching and preaching. Today, the building serves as the spiritual home of the Greek Orthodox parish of Agios Dimitrios. The combination of Western architecture and Orthodox iconography lends the interior a special atmosphere. Visitors experience a place where two worlds of faith come together in harmony. The serene space is ideal for taking a moment to step away from everyday life and immerse oneself in Aachen’s rich religious history.
