1st Symphony Concert
Concert featuring the Aachen Symphony Orchestra, the Opera Chorus, and the Aachen Symphony Chorus.
The inaugural concert by the new General Music Director, Levente Török, evokes the magic of beginnings: In “The Wand of Youth,” Edward Elgar looks back 40 years and dresses melodies he had already sketched as a teenager in a magnificent orchestral garb. In his *Partita*, John Rutter erects a musical monument to the heroes of his youth—Maurice Ravel, William Walton, and George Gershwin. Lili Boulanger, meanwhile, was only 24 years old when she wrote her last orchestral work, *D’un matin de printemps*. Although she was already seriously ill, this short orchestral piece evokes the carefree atmosphere of a spring morning. Finally, Maurice Ravel’s ballet “Daphnis et Chloé” opens with a morning sunrise and captivates with its seemingly inexhaustible impressionistic palette of colors.
