Christina Kubisch. The Emergence of Sound
A comprehensive retrospective exhibition by sound artist and composer Christina Kubisch
With *The Emergence of Sound*, the Ludwig Forum Aachen is dedicating a comprehensive retrospective exhibition to sound artist Christina Kubisch. Since the 1970s, Kubisch has worked at the intersection of composition, installation, and performance, and is considered one of the pioneers of international sound art. At the heart of her work is listening as an active experience. She understands sounds and noises not only as musical material, but as cultural, technical, and social forces that shape spaces and alter perception. The exhibition spans from early intermedia performances to large-scale sound installations and more recent site-specific works. The exhibition is complemented by rarely seen scores, sketches, and archival material that offer insights into Kubisch’s creative processes. A version of the well-known Electrical Walks, developed specifically for Aachen, extends the exhibition into the urban space and connects the museum with everyday city life in a sensory way.
