Mysterious Glazes – Yue Celadon from China
Works by Shi Zhen
The fascinating world of Yue kiln celadon—China’s “mother of porcelain”: To mark the 40th anniversary of the Aachen-Ningbo city partnership, the Couven Museum is presenting a small-scale exhibition featuring approximately 20 celadon vessels by the artist SHI Zhen from Ningbo.
This small summer exhibition takes you back to the origins of one of the world’s most significant ceramic traditions: as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty, masterful pieces were created here, famous for their mysterious, delicately shimmering glaze. The center of this art once flourished around Shanglin Lake near Ningbo—the “porcelain capital” of the Tang and Song dynasties.
