Holger Vanicek: “Paradoxical Reactions” at the Belgian Customs House in Aachen
Starting Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Belgian Customs House at the Köpfchen border crossing will become a space for reflection at the intersection of nature, industry, and perception. In his exhibition “Paradoxical Reactions,” conceived as a work in progress, artist Holger Vanicek explores contrasts that seem contradictory at first glance but precisely in doing so open up new perspectives. The starting point is observations of industrial wastelands that nature is reclaiming. From found objects, sculptures, and spatial installations, a multi-layered presentation emerges that deliberately incorporates the historic customs house. As you walk through the exhibition, you are invited to question familiar categories and engage with unsettling, poetic interactions. The exhibition blends harmoniously into the unique atmosphere of the site, where boundaries have always been ambiguous.
