Lucy (4.6 billion years) - Theater Production
A poetic play about Lucy, a supermarket employee who travels through the history of the Earth and, in the process, rediscovers her life and the world.
Lucy Afarensis works at the fish counter in the super-giant supermarket. Lucy places the fish, Lucy weighs them, Lucy rings them up, Lucy labels them. From early morning to late at night, every day. And every day, her boss insults her by calling her a Neanderthal for every mistake she makes. When Lucy’s Tupperware container with her lunch is stolen on her morning bus ride to work, she decides to chase after the thieves and gets off the bus. Unintentionally, she sets out on a journey that not only takes her completely out of her usual life. As if swept up in a current, she is drawn back through 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history to the beginning of life on the planet Earth. And even further, perhaps to a new Big Bang. With humor and great poetry, Gwendoline Soublin tells in her play the story of a woman living in precarious conditions—and the story of our planet Earth. The young director Julie Grothgar, who was selected for the Nachtkritik Theater Festival for her production of Valère Novarina’s play “Das eingebildete Tier” at the Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim, makes her debut at Theater Aachen.
