Sixteen-year-old Maik comes from a wealthy but dysfunctional family. His mother is an alcoholic, and his father would rather be with his assistant than with his family. Maik also feels isolated and misunderstood at school. Then he meets Andrej, nicknamed “Tschick.” The rebellious classmate comes from Russia—and from a difficult background. In a stolen, rickety Lada, the two tour across Germany, passing through landfills and abandoned lignite mining areas. On their journey, the two outsiders have bizarre and touching encounters that change their outlook on life—and on themselves.
