Pont District
Aachen's "Latin Quarter" is called the Pontviertel.
Did you know that one in four people living in Aachen is a student? Join us on an interesting walking tour through the Pontviertel, experience the lively atmosphere at the heart of Aachen’s student life, and learn interesting facts about RWTH Aachen University. Here, in Aachen’s “Quartier Latin,” people gather in numerous pubs and cafés. Our tour begins at the Markt and takes us along Pontstraße, one of the city’s oldest streets. We’ll pass the Aula Carolina, the original home of the historic Nobis bakery, and the International Newspaper Museum. A well-preserved section of Aachen’s first city wall also lies along our route. Passing numerous establishments, including the historic Molkerei, which today serves as a meeting place for young and old alike, we continue to the Ponttor, an old city gate that symbolizes Aachen’s eventful past. Side trips take us from Pontstraße past various RWTH institutions, as well as to the main building from 1865. Right next door, the remarkable SuperC—the university’s ultra-modern service center—captivates visitors.
