Former Nikolaushospital
The Former St. Nicholas Hospital in Aachen: A Historic Pilgrimage Site in the Cityscape
In the early 15th century, this building served as St. Nicholas Hospital and was a stopping point for people on their pilgrimage to Aachen or Kornelimünster. A small chapel stood next to the hospital, offering travelers a moment of prayer. When you stand in front of the building today, you can still sense something of the original significance of this place, where shelter and care were closely linked to the pilgrimage tradition. The surroundings quietly tell the story of the paths that once led through the region and made Aachen an important destination for devout visitors.
