Doll fountain
The Doll Fountain in Aachen – a small bronze sculpture in the heart of the Old Town
Between the cathedral and City Hall, you’ll find the Puppet Fountain, a 1975 work by Aachen-based sculptor Bonifatius Stirnberg. The moving figures depict scenes closely tied to the city. You’ll encounter a bishop, a professor, a town musician, and a figure from the world of equestrian sports. Each small figure brings a piece of Aachen’s everyday life and history to light. If you pause for a moment and turn or move the figures, a silent spectacle unfolds, allowing you to pause briefly amid the hustle and bustle of Krämerstraße. The fountain serves as a playful commentary on life in the imperial city—accessible yet full of allusions.
