Equestrian statue of Emperor Frederick III
Equestrian Statue of Emperor Frederick III in Aachen – An Imperial Echo on Kaiserplatz
On Kaiserplatz stands the equestrian statue of Emperor Frederick III, created in 1911. The statue was sculpted by Hugo Lederer and depicts the so-called “99-Day Emperor” on horseback. When you stand before it, you can sense some of the tension of this brief, almost ghostly reign. The figure appears calm yet determined. It was once surrounded by several lions, of which only one has survived and still stands on the square today. The bronze statue, standing about four and a half meters tall, seems like a silent observer of city life and serves as a reminder of a time when monuments conveyed political messages and redefined public spaces.
