At the end of the Burtscheid pedestrian zone stands the Seahorse Fountain, whose bronze figures immediately catch the eye. The six seahorses, arranged upright, were created by Josef Zeller and were originally part of the rotunda of the Elisenbrunnen. They have stood here on Kapellenstraße since 1971, lending the square a peaceful, almost cheerful atmosphere. The fountain’s dark marble basin provides a serene contrast to the delicate figures. If you pause for a moment, you’ll notice a hint of movement in the arrangement of the seahorses, as if they were curiously observing the water. The fountain is a quiet reminder of how closely Aachen has linked art and craftsmanship, even in the recent past.
