Permanent exhibition on the passion for collecting of wealthy Aachen citizens
Aachen's very extensive and heterogeneous museum treasure is the result of a sense of community, a strengthened bourgeois self-image in the late imperial era and the passion for collecting of entrepreneurs who had become wealthy during the period of industrialization. Many donations and bequests to the museum came from members of the museum association, which included the top echelons of society at the time from politics, business and the civil service, the educated middle classes and the center of Aachen's community in general. The Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum presents the collection objects, which range from minerals and goldsmith's works to carvings and glass art.
