Exhibition featuring inkwells and ink drawings

The exhibition “Ink Meets Ink Wash: Inkwells and Ink Drawings” at the Couven Museum combines historical writing culture with contemporary art. Some 70 artfully designed Art Nouveau inkwells and writing sets from the collection of Dr. Julius Rohm showcase the diversity of forms and design ideals around 1900. Floral ornaments, mythological figures, and delicate details transform these objects into small works of art for everyday use.
Aachen-based artist Stephan Wunsch juxtaposes these historical artifacts with ink drawings he created specifically for this exhibition. Inspired by the shapes of writing instruments and the atmosphere of the Couven Museum, he creates richly detailed visual worlds that explore themes such as time, transience, imagination, and memory. The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover ink as a creative medium that bridges the worlds of writing, drawing, and art.
