2.5 km of industrial history. Jülicher Straße
Special Exhibition at the Centre Charlemagne
When, in the mid-19th century, people were looking for land to accommodate Aachen’s expanding industry, Jülicher Straße was quickly chosen. Large tracts of land were available there, the Wurm River provided water, and the prevailing westerly wind kept smoke and odors away from the city. The exhibition showcases the wide range of products manufactured here—from umbrellas to safes—how the industrial area developed, how years of success alternated with years of crisis, and the role played by structural change.
But the exhibition also explores questions of social history: What was life like for workers both on and off the job? How dangerous was industrial work? Where did people live? What was the role of women?
General information
Free admission is available to schoolchildren, college students, and apprentices within the city of Aachen and the Aachen metropolitan region who are 21 years of age or younger, members of the Aachen Museum Association, Aachen Pass holders, and people with severe disabilities, as well as companions of individuals with a severe disability ID card marked with a "B." Admission fees may be higher for temporary exhibitions.
Reduced price for: Students, volunteers, trainees, holders of the volunteer pass, spa card holders, alumni card holders
