Sustainable meetings
A green rethink
Resource scarcity and global climate change are global challenges that the MICE industry must also face. After all, conferences, meetings and incentive trips have an impact on the environment.
Aachen's largest event location, Eurogress Aachen, is one of the pioneers in sustainable corporate management and in the staging of resource-saving congresses and conferences and already took part in the Ökoprofit project of the city region and the city of Aachen in 2011. The Eurogress has been awarded the EVVC's "Green Globe" certificate, is the winner of the "Meeting Experts Green Award" for its sustainable personnel management and has committed itself to the sustainability code of the event industry. The planned extensive renovation of the roof of the Eurogress Aachen by 2025 will result in the largest photovoltaic system in Aachen.
The city of Aachen aims to be climate-neutral by 2030. The city was selected in April 2022, along with 99 other cities, for the EU mission "100 Climate-neutral and Smart Cities by 2030". One of the goals is to ensure that no more greenhouse gases are released in Aachen by 2030 than can be offset by carbon sequestration. Major events such as the Aachen Christmas market are also setting a good example. Not only has it been voted one of the top 10 "Best European Christmas Markets" for years, it also focuses on the sustainability aspect by using green electricity. As early as 2018, the city achieved 3rd place in the category "Germany's most sustainable large cities".
