Obelisk Lousberg
The Obelisk on Lousberg in Aachen – A Viewpoint and Memorial Site
An obelisk stands on the Lousberg, commemorating the surveying work of geographer Jean Joseph Tranchot since 1807. From this vantage point, he mapped the region, which later became the basis for one of the most accurate atlases of his time. The obelisk stands quietly among the trees, offering a view of the city that stretches from the Soers Valley to the edge of the Eifel. When you reach the top, you’ll feel the blend of vast landscapes and historical significance. The monument’s simple form leaves room for reflection and makes this spot a quiet milestone in Aachen’s city history.
