City puppet stage "Öcher Schängche"
Öcher Schängche Aachen: A traditional city puppet theater in the Aachen dialect
Since 1921, the Öcher Schängche has shaped the city’s cultural landscape and brought traditional characters to life. The theater was founded to preserve puppet theater and the local dialect, Oecher Platt, while also presenting them in a humorous way. Today, the city puppet theater is located in the Barockfabrik, where it has been based since 1982. The atmosphere is intimate yet deeply rooted in culture. In addition to classic performances, new programs are constantly being created that playfully showcase the regional dialect while honoring the long tradition of puppetry. Here, history, language, and vibrant theater art merge into an experience that connects generations and brings Aachen’s identity to life.
