The Cheerful Stallion in Aachen: A dynamic bronze sculpture on Theaterplatz
The bronze sculpture *The Happy Stallion* has stood on Aachen’s Theaterplatz since 1963, serving as a reminder of the city’s close ties to equestrian sports. It was created by the sculptor Gerhard Marcks. The figure depicts a horse in lively motion, as if it were enjoying a moment of leisure. Set between the city traffic and the theater façade, the sculpture serves as a brief nod to the CHIO, which draws an international audience to Aachen every year. When you stand in front of it, you notice the playful expression that lends the square a light, friendly touch.
