The Reader
The Reader – A Quiet Encounter with a Deeply Immersed Reader
Right in the heart of downtown Aachen, you’ll come across a woman who has been reading her book undeterred for decades. The bronze sculpture *The Reader* was created in 1985 by Wolf Ritz and stands across from the Mayersche bookstore. The figure sits on a stone pedestal, her gaze completely absorbed in the open page. Her serene expression invites you to pause for a moment and leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind. Many see her as a symbol of the power of literature to transform people into silent companions. As a result, she has long since become a small but distinctive landmark in downtown Aachen.

The statue of the reader can be found in the immediate vicinity of the Elisengarten. Thanks to its location in the old town, the monument is easily accessible on foot.
