Chicken thief
Chicken Thief – Historical bronze figure depicting a humorous market scene
The small bronze statue of the chicken thief is one of the charming sights in Aachen’s Old Town. It depicts the moment when a young thief is caught red-handed after grabbing a rooster instead of a hen, and the rooster begins to crow loudly. The monument was created by the Berlin sculptor Hermann Joachim Pagels, and the statue was installed at the Hühnermarkt in 1913. The fountain evokes the market life of days gone by and brings a quiet smile to the alleyways. If you stop here, you’ll feel the blend of humor and tradition that makes this place so special.
