Türe-Lüre-Ließje
Türe-Lüre-Ließje Aachen: a legendary fountain figure on Klappergasse
Located between Klappergasse and Rennbahn stands the Türe-Lüre-Ließje, a bronze sculpture group that commemorates an old Aachen girl while also preserving a piece of the city’s history. The name is said to date back to the time of the French occupation, when it was used to describe constant complaints. The monument depicts Liesje surrounded by three boys, leaving plenty of room for personal interpretation. Some see a playful interaction, while others detect a hint of melancholy. The fountain invites visitors to pause briefly and let the interplay of figure, place, and history take effect. Since 1967, it has shaped this small section of the Old Town and connects everyday life with traditional anecdotes.
