Devil and market woman
Teufel und Marktfrau Aachen: Sagengestalt am Lousberg
If you want to climb the highest point in the city of Aachen, you can't avoid the Devil and the Market Woman. The two sculptures refer to the legend of the creation of the Lousberg, according to which the devil wanted to fill Aachen with sand. After losing his thumb in the cathedral door due to a trick by the people of Aachen, he wanted to take revenge on the inhabitants. However, the act was prevented by the cunning market woman and the sand from the devil's sack poured out in front of the Aachen valley. This sand formed today's Aachen Lousberg.
