Friedrichs Customs Museum in Aachen

Visitors to the Customs Museum at Horbacher Str. 497 enter a space that reveals itself gradually. Located near the state border and not far from an ancient Roman road, the museum combines regional history with impressive collections related to customs, culture, and everyday life. Behind the imposing facade of a former customs office lies a surprisingly large building where visitors are guided through some twenty rooms. An old film about smuggling sets the scene, before the exhibition takes visitors on a fascinating journey spanning Roman culture, the age of knights, and local history, culminating in the theme of customs. The wealth of objects, models, and stories creates an atmosphere that deliberately preserves its original character. Guided tours make the visit a special experience, alternating between astonishing details and clear historical contexts, ultimately leading into the exciting world of smuggling, the “Coffee Front,” and the Siegfried Line.
