Fish Puddle at the Aachen Fish Market
Right in the heart of the historic fish market, you’ll come across the Fischpüddelchen, a small fountain monument that has brought the history of this place to life since 1911. The figure depicts a naked toddler, a motif from the Aachen dialect that symbolizes the former fish trade in the Old Town. Originally created by Hugo Lederer, it was melted down during World War II and recreated in 1954 based on the destroyed original. Today, the Fischpüddelchen stands unobtrusively between the cathedral and the bustling market, almost casually yet still impressively. It invites you to pause for a moment and recall the lively past of this square.
