Aachen's "Printenmädchen" – A Quiet Thank You to a Sweet Tradition

In front of the traditional Aachen coffee shops stands a statue that catches the eye almost imperceptibly. The Printen Girl was created in 1985 by Hubert Lönneke and donated by Leo van den Daele as a token of his appreciation for the Öcher Prent. The bronze sculpture depicts a girl carrying a bowl full of Printen. There is something calm, almost ordinary, about her posture, as if she were just stepping out of an old bakery. As you walk by, you can imagine how closely the city is connected to this pastry, whose roots stretch back to Belgian Gebildbrot. The figure feels like a small greeting from Aachen’s culinary memory.
