Aachen World Cup Special 2026

When the World Equestrian Games come to town, the world’s equestrian elite will gather here: From August 11 to 23, some 650 athletes and approximately 500,000 visitors will create an international atmosphere and provide plenty of excitement. In six disciplines, the world’s best riders will compete for titles, medals, and unforgettable moments.

But the World Cup isn’t just happening in the stadium. During the Aachen World Cup Special, the entire downtown area will become a stage for special events: exhibitions, guided tours, concerts, culinary highlights, and public viewings will bring the unique World Cup atmosphere right into the heart of the city.

Do I need tickets for the supporting program?

Some events are free and do not require a ticket. Others will require a ticket. You can find more information on the pages for each event.

What is the difference between the World Cup event at the Soers and the World Cup Special in the city center?

The World Championships Special in the city center is the supporting program for the World Equestrian Games, which are being held at the Soers. The supporting program brings the unique atmosphere from the stadium right into the historic district.

What's the story behind the giant chess set on Katschhof?

The World Equestrian Games Chess Set is a special promotion organized by the city’s marketing department. Starting July 10, anyone interested can stop by Katschhof to play or learn chess. What makes it special is that the chess pieces are visually inspired by the World Equestrian Games and feature horse heads in various roles.

Anyone interested in purchasing a chess piece is welcome to contact the City of Aachen by email.

Where can I buy tickets for the World Equestrian Games?

What's the best way to get from the tournament grounds to the Old Town and back?

There will be shuttle buses running from downtown to the tournament venue and back. More information will follow.

Where can I park if I'm coming by car?

If you’d like to visit the Aachen World Cup Special in the city center, we recommend using the Park & Ride service. From there, you can take a bus to the Old Town. There are also parking options right in the city center, but expect heavy traffic. You can find the Park & Ride locations and an overview of parking garages in Aachen here.

Are there still hotels available in Aachen during the World Cup?

We recommend that you book as early as possible, as we anticipate very high demand. Shortly before or during the World Equestrian Games, we cannot guarantee that sufficient accommodations will still be available. If there is still availability during this period, you should expect higher prices.

Is the event also interesting for children and people who aren't into horseback riding?

Yes, the supporting program offers a wide range of activities and events for all ages. The Archimedes sandbox is especially popular with children, inviting them to explore through play. At the Euregio Market on Katschhof and Münsterplatz, you’ll also find a variety of regional culinary specialties. There’s something for everyone here.

How easy is it to get there from the Netherlands or Belgium (the border triangle)?

There are several ways to travel here from the Netherlands or Belgium. From the Netherlands, for example, you can take bus line 350 from Maastricht via Gulpen and Vaals to Aachen. You can find the departure and arrival times here. You can also take the RE18 train, which runs from Liège via Maastricht, Valkenburg, and Heerlen to Aachen. Just like bus line 350, it runs every 30 minutes. You can find the schedule here. Eupen is connected via bus line 14. You can find detailed information in the schedule, which you can download from the ASEAG website.
