The new year has begun and with it Aachen is once again full of exciting events, cultural highlights and unforgettable moments. Our Service Center has selected its own personal event favorites amidst the many different events. Whether traditional, modern or simply unique - you can look forward to these highlights in particular.
Lorraine air
My favorite event is the cultural street festival "Lothringair", which takes place on Lothringer Straße. The festival has a varied program including poetry slams, theater, dance, food and design stalls, live music and DJs. My little daughter also gets her money's worth with the extensive children's program. And she can let off steam in the playground and the Hirschgrün community garden. It is therefore the ideal event for young and old.
A special highlight for me is the top parking deck of the Contipark parking garage, where a DJ plays and you get a real festival feeling.
It's great that there is such a beautiful festival in Aachen, which is organized with so much love and commitment by the store and studio owners and residents of Lothringerstraße. Especially as an Aachener, you discover new local artists here every time and find a nice souvenir. I'm really looking forward to the next festival on 21.06.2025!

Night of the open churches
As every year, I look forward to the "Night of the Open Churches". Parishes of all Christian denominations in Aachen invite you to a wide-ranging program and show the places of worship in a special light.
I like to simply let myself drift and be surprised by the diverse range of events, listen to the musical sounds, whether meditative or inspiring, be inspired by spiritual impulses, immerse myself in installations, come into contact with people and simply enjoy the special atmosphere. Let yourself be touched, the next Night of the Open Churches will take place on 10.10.2025. By the way: admission is free 😊.

CHIO Aachen
As soon as the first riders have moved into their hotel rooms, I'm looking forward to an evening out with my dear colleague: I'm off to the CHIO opening ceremony!
As a 10-year-old, I used to be a "horse girl" - not anymore. But the evening on the show grounds captivates everyone and you have the feeling of being part of a global highlight! We stroll through the tent village, drink an after-work beer, eat a bratwurst and watch the hustle and bustle: People from all over the world, rich and poor, young and old.
And then it starts: in the setting sun, the opening ceremony of the CHIO with a mixture of show, music, dance, acrobatics and international cultures provides a real goosebump feeling. A perfect summer evening - not just for horse fans!

Lousberg run
For many years (with brief interruptions) I have lived in the immediate vicinity of the Lousberg, whose various jogging routes I frequently run. But I don't just appreciate the sporting aspect of the Lousberg. Numerous paths invite you to take a quiet walk in the countryside and the view from the top (e.g. with a cool drink on one of the park benches) towards the city center and the surrounding area is very beautiful. After the first ascent (coming from Kupferstraße), you can learn interesting facts about the origins of the mountainat the "Devil and Market Woman" monument...
When: 02.07.25
Where: Rütscherstraße and Lousberg

Flying high between the cathedral and town hall
I am very pleased to be able to cathedral jumping in Aachen again this year. I'm really looking forward to this special sporting event. Watching pole vaulting live up close is a completely different experience to watching it on television! The athletes rise into the air and overcome gravity for a brief, well-prepared and precisely calculated moment. It impresses me enormously how they bend the pole to take off with apparent ease and then reach heights that are unattainable for me. I imagine them looking over the rooftops of the city for a brief moment, as if they were birds, and enjoying the freedom of the sky for a split second. This association makes the experience even more fascinating. And you can experience all of this in the unbeatably beautiful, picturesque setting of the Katschhof between the historic town hall and the World Heritage Aachen Cathedral!
An exciting, big event, surrounded by the most beautiful sights of our city - always a pleasure!

Aachen Christmas Market
My favorite event is definitely the Aachen Christmas market. As soon as the first stalls are set up in November and the market square lights up in the evening, I start to look forward to the Christmas season. I particularly like the fact that so many Aacheners are part of the action themselves - you regularly bump into familiar faces in front of and behind the stalls on an evening stroll. Last year, it was almost a fixed ritual for me to stroll to the crêpe stand where a good friend of mine worked during my lunch break. Every day I tried my way through the different types of crêpe. This sweet break was always a short but special moment for me in the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle.
